Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that examines female representations in popular culture narratives. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is her primary goals. But, she also explores the issue of specific harassment of women on the internet and other minorities that have been marginalized. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in social and political thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is highly sought after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Feminist Frequency was launched in the year 2009 by Sarkeesian, a University student who has been involved in topics concerning gender and feminism since a long time. She was a young woman determined to make a series of web videos that would examine gender roles in games. But, she was victimized by online harassment. The incident did not deter her from pursuing the project, and instead it bolstered her determination as feminist media critic. Numerous awards have been given to her as a way of acknowledging her contributions to the field she made. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit focused on the portrayal of women within pop culture stories.
